as one of the state's major service projects. The Mission of the Lighthouse is to foster sight conservation and restoration,
and hearing conservation, with a particular emphasis on youth. The Georgia Lions Lighthouse provides vision and hearing
care to Georgians in financial need. It serves residents who have nowhere else to turn for eye surgeries, artificial eyes,
low vision aids for children, eyeglasses and hearing aids. More than 300 Lions and Lioness Clubs provide financial support

The mission of the Georgia Lions Camp is to
provide a special service to the blind and visually impaired with a residential camping experience, enabling them to grow
mentally, emotionally and physically. Since 1976, over 1031 campers have attended the Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind located
near Waycross, GA. In 2006, the Lions of Georgia sponsored over 200 youngsters and adults who experienced many golden moments
of pure fun, friendship, and personal development.
The goal for "2000" is 200 or more campers each year. The camp offers
six sessions of one week and one session of two weeks for 14-17 year olds. Because of the major forest fires in Southwest GA,
the 2007 camp year had to be canceled
For additional information check back next week.

Leader Dogs for the Blind was founded in 1939 by a group of Michigan Lions. Their goal was to train dogs to lead
the blind and to provide facilities and means whereby trained dogs could be matched to a blind master. The nonprofit
organization is served by a national board of 30 trustees. The training school and executive offices are located in Rochester,
Michigan. Over ten thousand blind people have become self-sufficient through the use of a Leader Dog. The dormitory stands as
a tribute to the many Lions Clubs who have unselfishly given their time and money to make the Leader Dog School what it is
today.

RFB&D is a national non-profit organization that serves as the nation's educational library for people
who cannot effectively read standard print because of a visual, perceptual, or other disability. RFB&D is the nation's only
non-profit organization that provides educational materials in recorded and computerized formats at every academic level from
kindergarten through college postgraduate study.
The Georgia Unit is a division of this National Organization with headquarters in Princeton, New Jersey.
The Georgia Unit, in addition to producing an average of 140 texts each year to add to the RFB&D master tape library,
facilitates book requests from individual students, their parents, or teachers. Chances are the book you need is already on
tape, but if it is not, RFB&D Georgia will work with the national organization to provide it for you. And, through RFB&D's
Annual Institutional Membership (AIM) program, school systems, colleges, universities, and vocational schools can provide
RFB&D-recorded texts for their students who could benefit from recorded texts.
